More About The Town Hall
First opened in 1834, Birmingham Town Hall is one of the UK’s great historic stages — a Grade I-listed landmark built for public meetings, concerts and civic occasions, and still overflowing with stories.
Over the years it has welcomed royalty and trailblazers alike: Queen Victoria spent time at the Town Hall during her Birmingham visit in 1887, and leading suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst also took to this platform to address the city. And in a wonderful piece of literary history, on 27 December 1853 Charles Dickens gave the first ever public reading of A Christmas Carol here.
The modern roll-call is just as legendary. Town Hall has hosted global icons including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Nina Simone, and David Bowie — alongside artists such as Buddy Holly and Led Zeppelin — cementing its place as one of Birmingham’s most storied live stages.

A dedicated, up-close concert setting within Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space is built for intimate events — with a multi-level stage and wraparound seating across two levels, so you feel close to every detail of the performance. With a full PA and lighting rig and space for up to around 200 people (depending on layout), it’s ideal for showcases, late-night sets, talks, and smaller-scale performances where atmosphere really matters.
It’s also a stage that regularly spotlights exciting artists — with recent highlights including Ashley Allen, Casey Bailey, and The Lost Notes.
